Belek or Lara for a family holiday?
By Semih Daban ·
Look at a map of Antalya and Belek and Lara seem like neighbours. Both are lined with large resorts, both have water slides and kids' clubs, and both get busy in the school holidays. So why does the choice matter?
Because a family holiday lives or dies on small things: how long a tired toddler spends in a car, whether the beach is right outside, whether the kids' club takes a four-year-old, and whether you'll want to leave the resort at all. Families who think about these questions before they book usually end up happier with their choice.
The short version
- Shortest transfer? Lara. The Lara hotels on our list are typically 10–16 km from Antalya Airport.
- Bigger grounds, pine forest and a golf-resort feel? Belek. Most Belek resorts are roughly 25–40 km from the airport.
- Want an evening in the city? Lara is closer to Kaleiçi and central Antalya.
- Theme park on the wish list? The Land of Legends is in Belek.
Getting there
If your flight lands late, Lara has a clear edge. Delphin Imperial and Sherwood Exclusive Lara both list the airport at around 10 km; Swandor Topkapı Palace is about 16 km away.
Belek varies more. Some resorts in the Kadriye area are relatively close, such as Cullinan Belek at about 26 km and Kaya Palazzo at about 27 km, while others further east are 35–40 km out. In practice that usually means half an hour to 45 minutes by car. Belek isn't far; it's just not as quick as Lara.
Our airport transfer guide covers the options for each area.
The gap matters most at the end of the trip. An early-morning flight home with sleepy children is easier from Lara, which is worth weighing for short breaks.
Beaches
Lara's beach is long and sandy. Go Türkiye, the country's official tourism site, describes it as a beach of gentle waves and darkish sand with a few small pebbles. Many hotels there reach the sea via decks and platforms.
In Belek, most resorts also sit right on the beach, and some have a lot of it: Titanic Deluxe Golf Belek has roughly a kilometre of private sand. Don't assume every Belek hotel is beachfront, though. Granada Luxury Belek isn't directly on the sand, and The Land of Legends Kingdom Hotel sits inside the theme park with no beach of its own.
Water parks and kids' clubs
Both areas are well stocked, so the real comparison is hotel by hotel.
In Belek
- Regnum Carya has a water park with slides for children and families, a kids' club for ages 4–12 and a separate club for 13–17.
- Titanic Deluxe Golf Belek has an aquapark of about 15,000 m². Its 2026 concept lists separate kids' club programmes for ages 4–6, 7–11 and 11+, a room where under-4s play with their parents, and a teen activity room for 11–17 in summer.
- Voyage Belek splits its kids' club by age and divides the beach into family and adults' sections.
- Limak Atlantis is a mid-sized option with a children's aquapark and club activities.
In Lara
- Delphin Imperial has eight slides for adults and seven for children; the water park opens at set hours during the day.
- Swandor Topkapı Palace offers two-storey duplex family rooms, so parents and children can sleep on separate floors.
- Lara Barut Collection adds baby services to its kids' club and stays open all year.
Check age rules carefully. At some resorts, children under four can only join activities with an adult.
Days out
From Lara, the city is close. An evening stroll through the lanes of Kaleiçi or a stop at the Lower Düden Waterfall, where the river drops straight into the sea, is an easy outing.
From Belek, the big family draw is The Land of Legends theme park, a short drive from many of the area's resorts. Golfing parents will also find the courses close at hand. A trip into the city takes a little longer than from Lara.
Matching the area to your family
- Babies and toddlers: a short transfer and baby services tend to matter most, which often points to Lara.
- Primary-school kids: the size of the water park and age-split clubs become more important, and Belek's larger resorts give you plenty of choice.
- Teenagers: look for a dedicated teen club, as at Regnum Carya and Titanic Deluxe Golf Belek.
- Big groups or two families together: villas, duplexes or connecting rooms make the difference; see Regnum Carya's villas or Swandor's duplex rooms.
Before you book
- Is the hotel on the beach, or is there a walk or shuttle?
- Which ages does the kids' club take, and do little ones need a parent with them?
- When is the water park open, and in which months?
- Is the family room one space, connecting rooms or a duplex?
- Is the airport transfer included or arranged separately?
When you compare prices, keep the room type, view and board basis the same, or you'll be comparing different things.
