When to visit the Antalya coast
By Semih Daban ·
On this coast, the season never fully switches off. The useful question is what you want from the trip. A family planning pool time in July and a couple keen to explore ruins in March need very different months.
Rather than guess, we've used long-term statistics from Turkey's State Meteorological Service (MGM) for Antalya. They're averages, so your particular week may be warmer, cooler or wetter, but they give a clear picture of what each season tends to bring.
Antalya's climate in numbers
Selected averages from MGM's Antalya records, 1930–2025:
| Month | Avg. high (°C) | Avg. low (°C) | Rainy days | Sunshine (hrs/day) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| January | 15.0 | 6.1 | 12.4 | 4.9 |
| February | 15.6 | 6.4 | 10.4 | 5.7 |
| March | 18.0 | 8.1 | 8.5 | 6.7 |
| April | 21.4 | 11.3 | 6.4 | 7.9 |
| May | 25.7 | 15.3 | 5.2 | 9.7 |
| June | 30.8 | 19.7 | 2.5 | 11.1 |
| July | 34.2 | 22.9 | 0.5 | 11.7 |
| August | 34.1 | 22.9 | 0.6 | 11.1 |
| September | 31.2 | 19.6 | 1.7 | 9.7 |
| October | 26.6 | 15.4 | 5.4 | 7.8 |
| November | 21.4 | 10.9 | 7.5 | 6.3 |
| December | 16.7 | 7.7 | 11.9 | 4.8 |
These figures are for the Antalya city station; Kemer, Side and Alanya may differ slightly.
Spring: March to May
Spring is walking weather. Days are mild, which makes it a comfortable time for Kaleiçi, the waterfalls and the ancient sites. The sea lags behind, though: it warms more slowly than the air, so early-spring swims are bracing. By late May, both air and water are heading into summer.
Some resort facilities, such as water parks or à la carte restaurants, may not be fully open early in the season. Check with the hotel before you book.
Summer: June to August
July and August average highs of around 34 °C, and rain is rare: MGM's figures show less than one rainy day a month on average. With over 11 hours of sunshine a day, this is the most dependable stretch for beach and pool holidays.
Midday heat can be draining, so plan shade or indoor time if you're travelling with young children or older relatives. This is also school-holiday season and one of the busiest periods on the coast.
Autumn: September to November
September still feels like summer, but the crowds start to thin. By October, average highs drop to the mid-20s. The sea holds on to its summer warmth for a while, so an October swim is usually more pleasant than a May one.
Rain becomes more frequent in November. It's still mild, but a beach holiday becomes more of a gamble.
Winter: December to February
Winter is Antalya's wet season, with around 12 rainy days on average in December and January. Daytime highs still sit around 15 °C, which is mild compared with much of Europe. It's a good time for golf, spa breaks, city sightseeing and quiet escapes.
Not every hotel stays open. On our site, Regnum Carya, Kaya Palazzo, Ela Excellence and Lara Barut Collection say they're open all year. In Kaleiçi, RuinAdalia has a heated outdoor pool that can be used year-round. Expect some outdoor areas at resorts to close in winter.
Choosing your month
- For beach time: June to September is the reliable window. Early June or September balances warm water with fewer people.
- For sightseeing: April, May and October are more comfortable. In midsummer, save outings for early morning or late afternoon.
- For golf: Belek's courses are close to the hotels. Spring, autumn and winter are kinder than the summer heat. Families weighing up the two main resort areas can read our Belek or Lara comparison.
- For quieter dates: School holidays and public holidays push demand up. If you're flexible, travelling outside them usually means a calmer stay and more choice of hotels.
Checking the sea temperature
MGM publishes sea temperatures from coastal stations online, including Antalya, Kemer, Alanya and Kaş. A look a few days before you travel gives a realistic idea, though the measuring point won't be exactly the water in front of your hotel.
