Voyage Sorgun

If you know Voyage from its Belek hotel, Voyage Sorgun will feel familiar: families and couples on the same site, with separate spaces for each. The official site describes the hotel as being for "families and couples", and one of its two piers is reserved for guests aged 16 and over.

Tour operator listings give the concept as ultra all-inclusive. The hotel is in Sorgun, east of Side, right on the sea. According to booking-site information, its private beach is about 350 metres of mixed sand and gravel, and the piers add extra space for sunbathing and swimming.

The pier split is what interests us most. An adults-only pier can transform a child-free couple's day: a corner away from the noise of kids' pools and playgrounds.

The downsides:

• Mixed sand and gravel is not ideal for families with toddlers who want soft sand; water shoes help.
• Side's old town is not within walking distance, so an evening visit needs a car or taxi.
• Booking sites put Antalya Airport at about 65 km, a longer trip than to the Belek sister hotel.

Who should look at another hotel? Anyone wanting an adults-only property, and those who need an all-sand beach.

Similar options nearby: Akra Sorgun TUI BLUE Sensatori, in the same area and also ultra all-inclusive, has a 16+ section and a Blue Flag sandy beach of about 260 metres. Voyage Belek is the brand's other example of splitting family and adult areas, but it is in Belek and closer to the airport.

June and September are wonderful for swimming off the piers; the water is warm and the air less draining than in midsummer. In July and August, shade on the pier becomes precious, and the school holidays are the hotel's busiest weeks.
