Likya Bay Hotel

You may know this hotel by its old name, Likya Residence Hotel & Spa. It now trades as Likya Bay Hotel, and the old web address redirects to the new site, so you may still see both names on booking sites.

The most interesting thing about this Kalkan boutique hotel is its child policy. According to the hotel's rooms page, children under 16 are accepted only between 1 July and 31 August; for the rest of the year it is adults-only. In effect, the same hotel has two characters depending on when you go.

Sources give the board as bed and breakfast. There is no beach of its own; guests use Yalı Beach Club, which has an arrangement with the hotel and is about a 5 to 10-minute walk away.

How we see it

For a quiet couples' break in June or September, this hotel pairs an adults-only setting with Kalkan's small-town life. In July and August families stay too, so couples looking for peace should keep that in mind when choosing dates.

The weak points: you have to walk to the beach club, and Kalkan's hilly streets can make that tiring in summer. The board covers breakfast only, and we could not verify the airport distance.

Who should look elsewhere? Anyone who wants a beachfront hotel, or a fully child-free stay in July and August.

Nearby, Likya Gardens Hotel accepts children and has its own beach club on the shore just below. Payava Hotel also relies on an arranged beach club, but that one is about 900 metres away.

May, June and September fall in the adults-only period, and Kalkan's sea and air are well balanced then. In midsummer the sun is strong, so head to the beach club early in the morning.
